Currently, I am running for an open Board of Directors position with the Anza Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AEC). I have 40 years of utility, technical, and writing experience that is perfect for serving the needs of our community on the AEC Board. The Mission Statement of AEC states that it exists to provide reliable electric service to its member-owners at the lowest possible cost. That can only be done by reasoned analysis before embarking on costly projects that will burden the member-owners with unrecoverable costs.
If elected, I will strive to promote core values of integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to our community.
Before retiring September 30, 2013, I worked for 23 years as a regulatory and transactional attorney at Southern California Edison Company (SCE). As a regulatory attorney at SCE, I handled a variety of proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission. Most recently before retirement, I was SCE’s lead attorney on the California Solar Initiative and the Self-Generation Incentive Program. Before that I handled a variety of regulatory proceedings and filed applications for approval of contracts, advice filings for approval of gas supply plans, and other tariff and non-tariff filings. I also have extensive transactional experience, including negotiating business transactions and drafting many types of business contracts and other documentation.
Before becoming an attorney in 1987, I worked for 15 years as a Member of the Technical Staff at TRW Space Systems Group in Redondo Beach, CA. With a B.S. in Physics, I worked on various projects including studies for NASA’s space flight programs and design of satellite thermal control systems.
My background in physics and my experience working on satellite thermal control systems helped me understand the technical aspects of the utility business and will help me serve the local community on the AEC Board of Directors.
In law school, I was appointed managing editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Journal because of my writing skills. I have been published in legal and technical journals. I have also been trained by the Los Angeles County Bar Association as a mediator, which enhances my communication skills and helps me resolve disputes among people.
My utility, technical, writing and mediation background is perfect for serving the needs of our community on the AEC Board of Directors. I will work diligently to provide reliable electricity at the lowest possible cost. To do that, I will ensure that all proposed projects are fully vetted before embarking on any construction or investment that may become an unreasonable cost burden on the member owners.
I respectfully ask for your vote at the Annual Membership Meeting to be held July 18, 2015.
